After a lovely few days of playing tourists in Put-in-Bay, we continued on our way. Just a few miles away was the Canadian border. This was exciting to us since we hadn’t been able to travel through Canada due to Bella not being able to receive vaccinations, but we’d still be able to technically enter Canada with her as we passed through. This is allowed and is referred to as an “innocent passage”, however, boaters must not touch Canadian waters as a boater as long as you do

We arrived in Put-In-Bay, Ohio on Wednesday July 2, 2025 just as the sun was preparing to set. There is a giant monument on the island called Perry’s Victory and International Peace Monument and it symbolizes the long-lasting peace between Great Britain, the United States, and Canada after the War of 1812. We could see it from miles out as we approached. We grabbed one of the few remaining mooring balls in the harbor that night, which would give us a front row seat to the fir

After an overnight stop in Pennsylvania, we continued on in the morning and made it as far as Lorain, Ohio that night. We anchored right inside the harbor with a lovely view of the Lorain Harbor Lighthouse. We found it funny that the river there where we had anchored was named the Black River because that is the name of the main river back in our hometown. We enjoyed an incredible sunset that evening and as dusk fell upon us, the lighthouse illuminated and starting changing

My sister, Karly, drove from Michigan to Buffalo, NY, parked her car at the Amtrak station there, then took a train to Rochester, where we met her on the boat. We found a Staybridge Suites with a free dock on the back of it just off the Erie Canal and it was only a short Uber ride from the train station, so she met us at the boat there. We picked up an Instacart order and then headed out the next morning. By this point, it had been almost 7 months since I had seen my sister s

After getting on our way again following the crash, we mustered up all the optimism we could summon, and continued on our way westward via the Erie Canal. Between the old ruins of the aqueducts and the quaint little towns, listening to us talk, you might've thought we were on a tour of Europe, even passing through towns such as Amsterdam and Rome. We actually ended up stopping in Rome for a couple of nights on the free dock to do some provisioning, and we figured since we wer

After a month and a half of impatiently waiting for the Erie Canal to open, we finally got word that the problem child locks were going to open! Hallelujah, thank you Jesus, that was music to our ears! I cannot tell you how swiftly we packed up our work stuff right in the middle of the day, called our bosses to let them know we were out, and then started up the boat and headed up the river! We were not about to miss this chance to get on with our journey after so long of wait
