The ocean has always been near and dear to my heart. Hearing the waves crash on the shore, watching sunsets and sunrises over the water as the light dances off from it, snorkeling and enjoying all the beautiful sea creatures - it has always given me a sense of peace and joy and has always fascinated me. Even as a small child, I wanted to be a marine biologist. Now the ocean is dear to us for new and obvious reasons - because it is quite literally our home!
Coral reefs are one of the world's most important ecosystems and provide a home to over 25% of all marine species. Rising ocean temperatures, pollution, and overfishing are putting them in danger of extinction.
Coral Gardeners is an organization that is committed to reef conservation and restoration. They nourish and raise baby corals and then help them build into the existing reefs. It is amazing what they are doing and so far they have planted over 100,870 corals!!
We just adopted our own baby coral and can track it online, which is pretty cool! Our coral is located in Mo'orea, French Polynesia. I definitely think we need to go visit it in person one of these days!
I'm just sharing this in case anyone else would like to contribute to this great cause and help conserve the corals in our oceans!
