Old Friends and New Friends

After a lovely week anchored near Hole in the Wall Island just north of Vero Beach, we left feeling rejuvenated and happy to be back on the move!

We didn't really have an end goal in mind when we left - all that we knew is that we needed fuel, water, a pump out, and groceries, and wanted to get further south! Initially, we thought maybe we'd anchor closer to the downtown area of Vero Beach since we'd never seen it, but we wanted to make more distance than that. Then we considered anchoring in Fort Pierce to try and see our friends who keep their boat there, but learned they were back home in Georgia at the time. We had previously anchored in Fort Pierce and recalled that the current is really strong there due to the inlet from the ocean, which made anchoring there less than ideal for us. Since we didn't know of any options of where to have groceries delivered to us there either, we decided to just duck in for a quick fuel up at the Safe Harbor Marina on our way, and then kept going.

We decided to grab a mooring ball for a couple of nights in Jensen Beach so that we could get groceries delivered and also use the laundry facilities there. This was also a great location to meet up with our friend, Mike, as it was directly on his route to and from work. Mike is from our hometown in Michigan and we've been friends since high school. He's been living in Florida the past 3 years, so we always try to stop and hang out on our way through!

Jensen Beach Mooring Field is very convenient because they take reservations, which is very rare! Most mooring fields are first come/first served and it is just not the ideal way to run a mooring field in my opinion, because it leaves us boaters to travel all day on a whim in hopes that there will still be a ball left when we arrive, and if not, then we are forced to scramble and look for an alternative place to anchor for the night, sometimes in the dark. So it was nice to have a guaranteed spot when we arrived! Unfortunately, after digging around with the boat hook for a good 5 minutes, I determined that the ball we reserved did not have a lead line or floating pendant on it, which meant there was nothing for us to hook up to. Since the balls were reserved, we couldn't just go switch to a different ball. I called the manager of the mooring field, who is a super nice guy, and he helped us switch to a different ball.

After getting situated a bit, our friend Mike arrived and we all walked into town to grab a bite to eat. Town is super close to the mooring field, so it was great to be able to just walk so he didn't have to deal with parking on a Friday night! We ended up having dinner at a cute little waterfront place called "Conchy Joe's". It was a huge, expansive place with great views and a HUGE menu! They also had a cute little patio area with fire pits! The menu had a lot of great food and drink options!

After dinner, we were drawn into another little place nearby called Circa69 because of the live music we heard as we were walking! There was a one man band playing and the place had an entire menu of Old Fashioned's, which are one of our favorites!

The next morning, we had a grocery order delivered, and my new extra long raincoat that I had purchased in Norway came in handy since it had rained that morning and everything was soaked! I stayed nice and dry though for a change!

We met up with Mike again and we all took an Uber into downtown Stuart for their annual boat show. We grabbed lunch at Sailor's Return, near Sunset Bay Marina where we had stayed last year when we visited. At lunch, we got to meet Mike's new girlfriend, Aubrey, who we absolutely love! She is a ton of fun and Dustin and I both really like hanging out with her! :)

After lunch, we walked across the bridge over to the boat show. This particular boat show was more catered to smaller center console boats and pontoons, but it was still fun browsing the vendor booths and Mike fell in love with one of the pontoons.

Dustin and I were excited because we were able to tour a Fleming 58 and a newer Krogen yacht. I have always loved the Flemings so it was nice to go on one finally. They are so classy looking! It was a 2005 and 20 years later, still had a cute little price tag of $2.5 million!!!! #RetirementGoals

At the boat show, one booth was doing a bourbon tasting and gave Dustin a great deal on a bottle if we promised to share their brand on the blog. 2abourbon.com

Even though we do enjoy an occasional cocktail, I'm not usually in the habit of publicly promoting alcohol, but this brand donates to families of fallen soldiers, and we thought that was pretty cool!

After the boat show, Mike came out on our boat to hang out for a bit and in traditional fashion, we broke out some board games and all had fun just hanging out!

It was nice to see a friend from home and also to make a new friend after meeting his girlfriend!
